John M. Sawyer moved to Lompoc as a toddler when his father, Dr. John D. Sawyer opened a surgical practice in Lompoc in 1963. He was raised in Lompoc and attended Lompoc schools, including Hapgood and Miguelito elementary schools, Lompoc Jr. High and Lompoc High School. After high school, Dr. Sawyer attended college at Stanford University and completed medical school at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed internship training at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital and Family Practice residency at East Carolina University. He is board certified in Family Medicine and practicing in Lompoc since 1991.
Dr. Sawyer’s daughter, Jessica, recently graduated with a degree in psychology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and now resides in Walnut Creek. His younger daughter, Christina, is a sophomore at San Jose State University.
Dr. Sawyer practices comprehensive family medicine, including preventive care, well-woman exams, well-child exams, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness in patients of all ages.
Dr. Sawyer served as Chief of Staff of Lompoc Hospital from 2005-2008. He has served on the board of directors of the Central Coast Medical Association since 2009 and served as president of the association in 2015.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Sawyer enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, hiking, gardening and taking motorcycle cruises around the beautiful central coast.
